Lying for Dollars

Fabricating college applications is a booming business. Just another way that our youth are putting success ahead of everything else. Stupid stuff such as honor, character. You know, stupid stuff!

In this editorial, a writer tells how working for an essay mill turned her stomach. Masquerading as a place that just offers feedback, this essay company turned out to be writing full essays for her clients.

Ever since the Reagan era began, everything has been success, money and power. From birth, our children are being taught that winning is the only thing. Everything else is waste. If we allow our children to think this way, then the only world we're going to get is one that's devoid of humanity or anything else that really matters. Time to change direction, don't you think?

What Should Christmas Be?

Core Values

What is Christmas to you? What do you think it should be? I’ve asked myself these questions this year. For me, it should really be about Jesus and what he wants for us in this life.

By extension, it should be about doing those things that he wishes we would do. Being good to friends, family and coworkers. Giving to those in need. Making ourselves better than we are.

My faith comes from what Jesus taught and how Jesus lived. Regardless of your beliefs, I think he sets a good example for all of us to follow. That’s why Jewish and Muslim folks hold Jesus in such high esteem.

Then it is that Christians such as me need to do everything we can to live his teachings. It is our duty and our obligation to take his teachings and make them real in the world. These include treating others as we would them treat us, resisting violence, rejecting revenge, not judging others, and not worshipping money.

Christianity is certainly a challenging faith to be a part of as it runs counter to many of our human impulses. We have to overcome our gut to make good.

After being on medical leave, I am now going back to my job as an airline pilot. While I have met many good people, I have also met too many who have cast God and their souls aside to become mere shadows of the people they should be. These people are perhaps not evil, but they are certainly not honorable, decent or moral. They treat others like garbage and simply don’t care.

It reminds me of why all of us need to reject all of that and become something more. That’s what this Christmas is about for me, thinking about what Jesus taught and being the person he would want me to be. I think that’s a good message for us all.

Mission Statement

Core Values

I'm a staunch moderate, who has both liberal and conservative points of view. I think that most Americans are moderates, and would much rather vote for a moderate than the liberals and conservatives we're always offered.

I really don't like either the Democrat or Republican parties. I think both of their leaderships are much more concerned with politics than they are with the concerns of the American people. They seem so detached with what's going on with our daily lives. It's time they stop spending so much time ripping each other apart, and instead, tend to the business of making the United States the country it shold be.

My views are always based on my faith and my values. As much as I love the United States, I must place my faith first. But, I think that my beliefs are certainly in keeping with our nation's best interests.

Like a newspaper columnist, I will write columns as events dictate. I will lable these "Current Events." I will also write articles based on general topics. These will be titled "Core Values." As we go along, you will see what I believe in and why. I look forward to your reading my columns. Please tell me what you think!.
