Jackson Cuts Up at Empire Awards

Even though "King Kong" wasn't the big hit everyone expected, Peter Jackson can laugh about it! At the British Empire Awards, Jackson accepted the award for Film of the Year with a video that pokes plenty of profanity-laden fun at the film's actors. The video is online, and will supposedly be included in the "King Kong" DVD coming out on March 26th.

Stewart Gets Panned by Shales

Even though I thought Jon Stewart was good, The Washington Post's Tom Shales definitely does not! "Keep your 'Daily' job," Shales says, calling Stewart "a sad and pale shadow of great hosts gone by." Ouch! "Stewart began the show drearily, loping through a monologue that lacked a single hilarious joke with the possible exception of 'Bjork couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her Oscar dress and Dick Cheney shot her.' That was about it -- and Stewart had five months, working with his legions of writers from the "Daily Show" on Comedy Central, to come up with good material. It goes to prove that there's still a big, big difference between basic cable and big-time network television after all."

Well, I still think that Stewart did a good job. Boy, Tom Shales, chill, bro!

Oscar Ratings Down for 2006

Oscar ratings are down again. Continuing the fall from 2005, this year's ratings dropped 8 percent. Some have sited the independent, small-budget nature of this year's films. I personally thought that this year's broadcast was better than last year's. Viewers were estimated at 38.8 million people. This was down 8 percent from 2005 and the worst since 2003, according to Nielsen Media Research. Except for the 2003 count of 33 million viewers when "Chicago" took the best-picture award, the Oscars hadn't dipped below 40 million viewers since 1987, Nielsen said.

Isaac Mizrahi Protection Plan

Whooo! Looks like celebrity groper Isaac Mizrahi was able to get through the E! Oscar Pre-Game Show without fondling anyone. Thank gosh! One thing that might have helped keep Isaac in check was that E! was handing out complimentary cans of mace to anyone who came within arms length of dear Isaac!
